Claude organizes when you ask. Filently keeps your Drive organized.
Claude can rename and move files in Google Drive, and it renames them well. Filently names and files every new document as it arrives, with one naming rule you set once.
An assistant you ask, or a filing layer that runs.
Claude is a general assistant with a Google Drive connector. On paid plans it can rename, move, share and trash files, and it asks before each action by default.
The difference is who starts the job. With Claude, you do, in a chat or with a schedule you set up. With Filently, the next document does.
Claude
You: Open a chat and describe the task
You: Tell it how to name files
You: Approve each action
Automatic: Claude renames and moves
You: Start it again for the next batch
Good for a one-off job. Claude can remember your naming rule in memory or a Project, but each run starts when you start it.
Filently
You: Connect Google Drive
Automatic: A new document arrives
Automatic: Filently names it and picks the folder
You or Automatic: Review or enable auto-filing
Done
One naming rule, applied to every document from then on. Anything uncertain waits for you.
Hands-on test · August 2026
What we found when we tested Claude.
TL;DR
Claude renamed all six documents correctly, in both drives. In My Drive it also filed them into the folders it created. In a shared drive it created the folders and then could not move a single file into them. And nothing happens when a new document arrives: Claude runs when you start it.
6 of 6 named correctly. It even used the date inside a scan instead of the wrong one in its filename.
My Drive: filed, all six.
Three folders created, every file moved in, and Claude checked its own work afterwards.
Shared drive: folders, but no filing.
Same six files, same prompt. The folders appeared, but not one file moved into them.
Two runs, one name that changed.
1 of 6 names differed between our two runs: the same agreement became Blattwerk-Design once and Blattwerk-Design-Studio the other time. Same naming rule, no saved list of party names.
A whole drive · our assessment
Already messy? A whole drive needs the whole picture.
Filently works with the folder structure you already have – or helps you build a new one if your Google Drive is already a mess. Deep Clean looks at your existing documents and proposes a folder structure that fits. New documents are then named and filed automatically, so your Drive stays organized.
Claude
You: Start a chat with the first batch
You: Agree on a structure for that batch
You: Approve each action, or switch approvals off
Automatic: Claude renames and moves
You: Repeat for every next batch
Each batch only sees its part of the drive, so the structure is built piece by piece.
Deep Clean
You: Connect Google Drive
Automatic: Deep Clean gets an overview of your entire Google Drive
Automatic: Based on your content, Deep Clean proposes a folder structure that fits
You: You can refine the structure in a chat
Automatic: Once you approve, the new structure is created, documents are sorted into it and renamed the way you want
Verdict: Claude wins everything beyond filing. Filently wins filing that happens without you.

Documents keep arriving? Let Filently name and file each one as it lands, in the folders you already have.
Filently is not trying to be an assistant. Claude answers questions about your documents, finds everything related to a deal and summarizes it, drafts and analyzes, and works across Gmail, Calendar and many other apps. When a document doesn’t fit the pattern, a conversation is a good place to work out what to do with it.
For a handful of documents you want sorted once, Claude can be enough. You don’t need a filing system for that.

FAQ
Fair questions.
Should I use Claude or Filently to organize Google Drive?
Use Claude for a handful of documents you want sorted once, and Filently when new documents keep arriving and should be named and filed without you. In our test in August 2026, Claude renamed all six documents correctly and filed them into folders in My Drive.
Is Claude or Filently better at naming files?
Both name files by their content: Claude renamed all six of our test documents correctly in August 2026, and Filently names every document as part of filing it. The difference shows over time. In our two Claude runs one of six names came out differently, while Filently applies one stored convention to every document.
Which works in shared drives, Claude or Filently?
Filently files into shared drives, including moving files into them; Claude didn’t in our test in August 2026. It created the folders we asked for in a shared drive, then failed to move a single file into them, while the same task worked in My Drive. The connector develops quickly, so check your own case.
Which one files new documents automatically?
Filently files new documents automatically as they arrive; Claude acts when you start it, in a chat or on a schedule you set up.
How much do Claude and Filently cost for organizing Google Drive?
Claude needs a paid plan to change files in Google Drive, starting with Pro at $20 a month or $200 a year; Filently starts at about $4 a month, billed $48 a year, after 25 free documents. They are not like for like: Claude Pro is a full assistant, Filently only files. Prices from claude.com/pricing, checked 19 October 2026.
What is the difference between Claude and Filently?
Claude is a general assistant that organizes files when you start it; Filently is a filing layer that names and files each new document as it arrives. Claude can remember your convention in memory or a Project, but each run still starts with you. Filently runs on its own, with suggestions to review or auto-filing.
Can I use Claude and Filently together?
Claude and Filently work well together because they do different jobs. Filently keeps your Drive named and filed, and a well-named Drive can make it easier for Claude to find the right documents when you ask it a question.
Is Claude a good choice for organizing a large Google Drive?
Organizing a large Google Drive with Claude is possible but laborious: it means thousands of approvals, or switching approvals off, across many batches. In our assessment each batch also only sees its part of the drive, so the structure is decided piece by piece. Filently applies one convention to every document, with a preview, an activity log and undo.
Can Filently organize my entire messy Google Drive?
Not in one step yet: Filently’s core product files new documents into your existing structure, so you can start today and stop the mess from growing. For reorganizing a Drive that is already chaotic, Deep Clean is launching soon, and a first beta is running now.
What can't Filently do?
Filently can’t name images without text, like holiday photos, because there is no document content to name them by, and it doesn’t work with files outside Google Drive. For those, a desktop renaming tool is the better choice.
Does Filently work with shared drives and teams?
Filently works with shared drives: it files into My Drive and into the shared drives your Google account can access, including moving files into them. Each Filently plan connects one Google account; there is no team plan yet.
Claude helps when you ask.
Filently files the next document by itself.
Filently adds a filing layer to the Google Drive you already use. No chat to open, nothing to repeat, one naming rule for every document.
