Deep Clean is Filently’s one-time clean-up for a messy Google Drive. It scans a folder or your whole Drive, proposes a folder structure built from your files and, after your approval, moves every file into place, renamed if you want. Deep Clean is launching soon, and a first beta is running now.
How do I clean up a messy Google Drive?
Cleaning up a messy Google Drive takes two things: a folder structure that fits how you work, and every file moved into it with a clear name. You can do it by hand, folder by folder (step-by-step guide), or let Deep Clean propose the structure from your files and move everything in one pass once you approve.
How much does Deep Clean cost?
Deep Clean is a one-time purchase, and the scan and structure proposal are free. You see the proposed structure, adjust it and preview the new names. Only then do you get a quote based on the number of files and folders. Keeping new files organized afterwards is optional, with a Filently plan from $4/month billed yearly.
Do I need a subscription?
No, Deep Clean doesn’t need a subscription. It’s a one-time purchase, and you only pay once you’re happy with the proposed structure and names. They stay in your Drive. If you’d like new files named and filed automatically afterwards, you can add a plan.
How long does a Deep Clean take?
A Deep Clean takes a few minutes for most Google Drives, and at most a few hours for very large ones with tens of thousands of files. It runs in the background, so you can keep working.
Can I start with just one folder?
Yes, you choose where Deep Clean runs: one folder, a shared drive or your whole Drive. Start with one folder, check the result, and clean up the rest when you’re happy with it.
Does Deep Clean work with shared drives?
Yes. You can run Deep Clean on a shared drive or on any folder inside one. You need the Content Manager role or higher on that drive, because Google Drive doesn’t let Contributors move files.
What happens to folders I've shared with other people?
Deep Clean keeps shared folders intact. If other people can see a folder, or someone else owns it, nothing moves into or out of it and it keeps its name. That way nobody loses access to a file, and nobody gets access to something new.
Will links to my files still work?
Yes. Deep Clean moves and renames files inside Google Drive, so every file keeps its link. Folders shared with other people stay intact.
What about photos and files without text?
Photos of documents, like a snapped receipt or a scan, go through text recognition, so Deep Clean recognises them like any other document. For pictures without text, it looks at the file name, the folder and the files next to it: a photo in a folder of renovation quotes belongs with the renovation. Folders that are mostly photos, like a holiday album, stay together as one piece, and nothing inside them gets rearranged.
Will my file names be changed?
Only if you approve it. You choose the naming format yourself, with previews built from your own files, and you see every file’s new name before anything changes in your Drive. The format you pick is also used for new files Filently files afterwards.
Can I undo a Deep Clean after I approved it?
Yes. Filently can put everything back the way it was: files move back to their original folders, get their original names again, and any folders Deep Clean removed are restored. If you or someone else changes those files or folders in Drive afterwards, some changes may no longer be undoable. Filently will tell you before you undo.
Will Deep Clean delete files to free up storage?
No. Deep Clean never deletes your files and doesn’t free up storage. It moves them into a clear structure and gives them consistent names. Files it can’t place confidently go into an “_Unsorted” folder, so nothing gets lost. Folders left empty after the move go to your Google Drive trash, where you can restore them for 30 days.
How is Deep Clean different from Gemini's Organize My Files?
